Hey howdy hey, we are back and with some good news.
So it’s been several weeks since our last update, but we’ve made some progress even though we’ve had very little time to work together as a group. We decided that trying to contact the forsater care company was starting to become a waste of our precise time and Brian says that it would be no big deal, since it’s his church he says that they take open donations and that we could just drop off our’s whenever we want. In our case we will drop them off once we get start to collect them. I decided to google different kinds of stuff that foster families can use and made a few different lists for our “Scavenger Hunt”. The main idea for the hunt is that if you donate two items from each list you'll be given a small bag of candy and entered into a raffle to win a $15 to $20 gift card to DQ. For more information please check the "Scavenger Hunt" page, as seen above. We’ve sent an email to our school princlebile to an “ok” so that we can set up a donation table for the first two weeks of April. I am very confident that people will take interest in donating to a local cause and if not, people like candy so there that. This project has been very slow to pull off, but I am sure that this will bring in some donations. Even if we don’t get a extreme amount of items I still think this will be considered a success I hope to be able to report great findings in the near future. Have a lovely day, and remember to smile and wave. - Gannon

Time for a nice update.
So to catch you up to speed, we still haven't received the “Yes please gather this list of supplies for us by this time, thanks” from the original foster care company, but we have decided to move on to the table. We decided that there is no harm in just gathering supplies from friends and classmates and give them to any local foster home place. We are setting up a donation table at lunch with several different list of general supplies people can bring. If someone brings 2 or more from each list that receive a prize. Whoever brings in the most however will receive the “bigger prize” nothing super fancy or expense, but something to encourage people to buy many supplies. We are encouraging everyone to take a list to share with family and friends to help spread awareness of the fundings the foster care companies need. The goal is to set up the donation table by late february or early march. The sooner we start the sooner we start getting donations. We are hoping for a large turnout. Hopefully we will come up with more ideas with ways to encourage people to help and spread word throughout the community. We really think that foster care companies do so much work and deserves more attention by the community and the government. We hope our actions will spark some attention towards the wonderful people who help those in need. And that is our true goal. Have a lovely day, and remember to smile and wave. - Gannon Well howdy hey howdy hi.
To start off with this may sound like we haven't achieved anything in the past week, we now have the ball semi rolling. Do to the fact that the company has yet to reply in detail to our idea we still haven’t been given any major ideas for what to buy other than basic supplies like towels and cleaning stuff. I plan on heading out and buying some general toys, while Brian and Mel go and get those basic supplies. While waiting for the company our teacher gave us some ideas about how we could get the community involved. Like doing some kind of fundraiser. I Brian suggested that we asked our school’s principe if we could set up a table at lunch for a week or two to gather basic supplies. We could also come up with some kind of incentive for the students to bring in stuff. We’ll look further into this idea in the upcoming weeks. I also suggested that we tell our parents about the plan and have them tell their friends about the cause and spread the word. The more people we can convince to help out and get supplies the better, the more people will be able to help. I’m sure by next week we will have the plan sorted out with more detail. Once we get the plan finalized we can start asking parents and family for donations for the foster families. I still have high hopes for this project and believe we can do great. Have a lovely day, and rember to smile and wave. - Gannon It’s time for a new year, and time to update on the project.
Our original goals for the project, my original goals for the project, was to contact a local company and ask them if it would be alright if they asked so local families with foster children what their kids would want for a gift basket of some kind. To spread some joy for thoses who might not be able to afford a bunch of toys, we knew some in the community with foster siblings. I believed that we would be able to achieve this goal twice, once in December and once in March, but alas due to my own lack of motivation we were unable to achieve this goal. Now the goal has changed a little bit, instead of two gift baskets just one in February. Brain was able to email a local company in december. After several emails they finally responded, they said something to the effect of this, “We will look into your idea, we will respond to you around January 15.” I plan to over the future weekends go to Walmart or Target, use money I’ve gained from helping family, and buy some basic supplies and gifts to be ready for when the company responds by the end of this month. The current goal is to gain supplies for 3 or 4 gift baskets. To raise money I’ve suggested we have our parents send messages to friends and family about our goal or use preowned money. I really need to put in more effort into this project. I believe we will be successful in the end. Have a lovely day, and rember to smile and wave. - Gannon Welp Do I have some amazing stuff for you…
Here’s a shocker, I don’t have much to tell you. Well I guess I start with the fact that as far as I know Brian still hasn’t made the call to the company. You can check Mel’s for a basic version of the script. Me and Mel told him that just because its a group project doesn't mean we all have to be there for every little bit of it, we all need to pull some weight. So in the meantime we have decided to start making a list of basic toys and games that most kids like, until we get an exact list of stuff so we can be prepared for some objects. We also have a nice idea of how to gain money for this project. So in the winter there's typically a lot of leaves to be racked and snow to be shoveled and other simple yard work that could be done to help raise money for kids. We’ll have our parents talk with their friends and our family members and see if there are any yard jobs that we could do. I’m sure people in our community would love to help foster kids, especially this time of the year. I’ll start going to target and other stores and look for some basic toys, games etc. I’m HOPING i’ll be able to tell you some amazing and exciting news next week. Though I probably shouldn’t get my hopes up Have a lovely day, and rember to smile and wave. - Gannon Oh Boy, oh boy, oh boy.
So it’s time for our second blog post. Time for me to tell you all the amazing accomplishments we’ve done in the past week. Well here’s the thing. Not much has been done. We finally figured out who to call at the foster care company and its time for a script. Brian has been thoughtful enough to be the one to call the company. We’re in the middle of writing a script, so when we talk with the company we seem formal and know what we’re doing. Then we can start buys toys and gifts. I have high hopes for this. I believe that we’ll be giving permission to go out and buy a few toys and games for a child, whatever they want (within a reasonable price range of course ). Melvin and Brian have there doubts, but we won’t know until we call on Monday or Tuesday ( Or whenever we finish the script ) Once we are giving a list of items the kid wants, I have volunteered to be the one to go out and do the buying. Im betting the child will be very pleased with what they receive. And for me that my goal, to bring joy to children in foster care. Well that's just about all I have for this blog post. I hope I will be able to bring some good news next week. Have a lovely day, and rember to smile and wave. - Gannon Hello there. The name’s Gannon and i’m with my two buddies Brian and Melvin. And now it’s time to start on our grand project. There are loads of kids living in foster care, some we know. Our goal is for at least 2 months ( December and March ) produce a few care packages for a few foster families in the community. They will contain goodies, like toys, games, and other fun objects. The plan for contacting the foster parents is simple. We are having Brian contact a friend he knows from his church. He’s gonna explain our goals and give them me and Melvins contacts. Hopefully if things go according to plan he and/or she will contact one of us and we will get started on Phase 2. Which will be a blast.
Phase 2 may be even easier than Phase 1. The next step is to get a list of toys and game for a special kid in foster care, because we want them to get things they love. Over the course of the month we will buy the goodies for the children. Then in December we’ll either deliver the packages ourselves or more likely; give them to foster care services. Then do the same in January and February, and deliver in March. But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. I’m hoping for another positive report next week. Have a lovely day, and rember to smile and wave. - Gannon |
